Qatar's Madibo given five-match ban for Kone tackle
Qatar's Madibo given five-match ban for Kone tackle follows an incident at the FIFA World Cup last week. Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo received a five-match suspension for a tackle that broke Canada’s Ismael Kone’s leg. Canada went on to win the match 6-0, but Madibo was sent off in the 54th minute for the offence. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee classified the sanction as “serious foul play.” Madibo can appeal through the FIFA Appeal Committee, and the Qatar Football Federation said he visited Kone in hospital after the surgery, calling it a sign of sportsmanship. A 29-year-old from Khartoum, Madibo has 53 Qatar caps. Qatar play Bosnia and Herzegovina later on Wednesday to finish their group stage, with qualification still possible with a win.
