Red Sox Dreams Of Trading For Former World Series MVP Are Dead After Latest Report
Boston Red Sox trade speculation is narrowing after a recent report indicated the team’s pursuit of a former World Series MVP is no longer an option. MLB insider Buster Olney reported that the Red Sox have been looking for right-handed bats in the trade market, while emphasizing they are not “punting” despite an unspectacular record. Red Sox decision-maker Craig Breslow has said the club still has weeks to climb back into the wild-card race and potentially act as buyers at the deadline. However, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale said the Houston Astros do not want to deal shortstop Jeremy Peña or first baseman Christian Walker. Nightengale added that Houston is searching for bullpen help and a left-handed-hitting outfielder, and that Peña is an All-Star, Gold Glover, World Series MVP with a .284/.345/.452 line and six home runs this season.
