Rollin' on the River: Boats to float the Yellowstone this weekend
Rollin’ on the River: Boats to float the Yellowstone this weekend highlights the Yellowstone Boat Float’s 63rd run along Montana’s Yellowstone River. The event launches today from Mayor’s Point in Livingston and continues through Big Timber, with the journey set to end at Itch-Kep-Pe Park in Columbus on Sunday, July 12. Organizer Andrew Bolerjack said conditions will be hot, urging participants to bring protective clothing, shade, and plenty of water. After a 42-mile stretch, floaters stop at Otter Park in Big Timber, where Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks permits free camping on a first-come, first-served basis. On Saturday, July 11, the group moves to Indian Fort Fishing Access in Reed Point after a 20-mile ride, with another free rest period. Participants can also stop at Burger Beach before Indian Fort; no food will be served there due to temperatures, though Waterhole Saloon is about 1.5 miles away. The float began years ago as a protest against a proposed dam.
