Taco Bell reportedly pulls ingredients amid 'explosive diarrhea' parasite outbreak reports that the fast-food chain removed certain items during an investigation into a parasitic outbreak linked to Cyclospora. According to TMZ, Taco Bell has pulled multiple ingredients at select locations while health officials investigate a surge in cyclospora cases. The Cleveland Clinic describes cyclosporiasis (illness caused by Cyclospora cayetanensis) as leading to watery diarrhea that can be “explosive,” along with other stomach problems, typically transmitted through contaminated water or food. Symptoms mentioned include bloating, burping, gas, nausea, and loss of appetite. In Michigan, TMZ and WWJ reported signs posted by some restaurants stating lettuce, cilantro-onion, pico de gallo, and guacamole were unavailable due to a nationwide recall. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 678 cases across 21 counties, and no specific supplier or produce type was identified as the source. It remains unclear whether anyone who ate at Taco Bell became ill, and the company was not identified as the outbreak source.
