Sailors compete in annual Lake District regatta to raise funds for RNLI

Sailors competed in the annual Lake District regatta to raise funds for the RNLI, with nearly 30 boats taking to the water for the Royal Windermere Yacht Club event on Saturday, 11 July. The RWYC hosted the regatta and allowed both club members and visiting sailors to race, while the public watched from shore. A total of 26 boats signed up across the 17ft, 15ft and Cruiser fleets, sailing a Windward/Leeward course on light winds. RWYC Commodore Richard Jennings said the first race featured Windermere 17s, Flying Fifteens including visiting Laser 2000 sailors, and Cruisers, followed by a second race with three legs. £500 was donated and split between the RNLI and the RWYC Sailing Academy. Winners included Phil and Ros Snewin for the 15s and overall RNLI Peter Glaister Trophy, Julian Newman for Cruisers, and Colin Bentley and John Richardson for the 17s.
