Sally Rooney books withdrawn from UK over Palestine Action support

Irish author Sally Rooney said her books can no longer be sold in the UK because of her support for Palestine Action, a direct-action group that the UK proscribed as a terrorist organisation beginning 5 July 2025. Rooney, 35, argued UK sales and publication could amount to a “serious criminal offence.” She previously said she would donate earnings to Palestine Action. Her publisher, Faber, said the ban means it cannot pass on UK earnings and withdrew her novels from sale in the UK with Rooney’s agreement. Rooney cited an opinion piece that followed the proscription. Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori criticized the move, and Rooney reportedly cancelled a London trip to accept a Sky Arts Award in September 2025.
