Search underway in Atlantic Highlands Harbor for missing boater

A search and rescue operation is underway in Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor and nearby Sandy Hook Bay for what authorities believe is a missing boater, Atlantic Highlands police said. The department posted on Facebook shortly before noon Monday, Sept. 14, warning residents they would see an elevated presence of first responders in the area. Police said a search for a missing boat operator was in progress, but no identifying details about the person were confirmed. Party boat captain Hal Hagaman reported spotting many emergency responders and a New York Police Department helicopter overhead. The U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook referred the matter to Coast Guard Sector New York.
