Suspected Illegal Migrants Flee Into California Neighborhood After Harbor Drop-Off

A suspected migrant boat was abandoned at Newport Harbor after reportedly striking and damaging a nearby yacht, Fox 11 reported. The incident involved a 20-foot panga that arrived before people onboard allegedly dispersed into a neighborhood of waterfront homes. Authorities believe the vessel was taken into Coast Guard custody, but they have not said how many people were aboard or confirmed whether anyone has been found. Surveillance footage near Cypress Street, filmed Saturday afternoon, appears to show at least 12 people climbing out one at a time before scattering. A prior Newport Harbor incident showed more than 20 suspected migrants leaving a panga for waiting vans.
