The Mystery Behind How These 'Fraternal Twins' Were Born 3 Years Apart
The mystery behind how these “fraternal twins” were born 3 years apart centers on IVF timing and embryo cohorts rather than a biological twin birth. Missouri resident Taylor Greenhagen shared an Instagram reel saying her son, Owen, now 3, and her daughter, Dylan, now 7 months, were conceived in the same IVF cycle in 2022 and spent the first five days as embryos growing side by side. She said one embryo resulted in a 2023 birth and the other in 2025. Greenhagen attributed their path to fertility issues linked to anovulatory polycystic ovary syndrome and told Newsweek that egg retrieval leads to fertilization and lab monitoring for about five to six days. She explained that within IVF communities, children from the same embryo cohort are sometimes informally called “fraternal twins,” even though they are not biological twins.
