The superyacht chef who swapped the South of France for Orkney family life

Italian chef Marco Tognon, 33, says he swapped the South of France for family life in Orkney. An influencer chef who works aboard the Sanlorenzo superyacht Silver Fox, Tognon cooks for ultra-wealthy clients on charter periods that can cost almost £1m, spending about two months at a time at sea. After each voyage, he returns to Stromness, where he and his wife and four children are converting a former Victorian bank dating to 1864 into a home. He won the Superyacht Chef Competition in 2023 and previously worked his way up through restaurants, including one with a Michelin star. Tognon says the move was driven by love for Scotland and a focus on safety and quality of life, describing regular trips to Italy from Orkney for catering.
