Traffickers using ferries, planes and post as well as fishing boats and pleasure vessels to get drugs into the isles

Police officers in Shetland said they are using “intelligence-led” operations to tackle drug trafficking into the islands, citing multiple routes beyond just boats. Chief inspector Chris Sewell told The Shetland Times that controlled drugs can come through the ferry terminal and airport and, in some cases, via post, along with fishing and pleasure vessels. He praised the charity Dogs Against Drugs for giving officers a “tactical option” when they act on intelligence. The comments follow debate reported previously about the charity’s impact, with Shetland South councillor Alex Armitage arguing it had “zero effect” and suggesting alternative services be supported.
