Turkish deep-sea search vessel joins efforts to retrieve 20 still missing after Cyprus ferry disaster

A Turkish deep-sea search and rescue vessel, the TCG Isin, is heading to Cyprus to support efforts to recover the missing after the Filo Jet ferry disaster. The high-speed ferry capsized and sank on Sunday about four nautical miles outside Kyrenia, with authorities later confirming eight deaths and revising the number of unaccounted passengers from 17 to 20. Of 267 people aboard, 241 were rescued, almost all reported as Turkish or Turkish Cypriot. The Isin can search up to 3,000 metres below the surface and is expected to aid recovery of the voyage data recorder. Turkey marked the start of a three-day national mourning period.
