Two fishing boats targeted in drone attack off Iran's southern coast, fishermen go missing: Report

Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) says two fishing boats were targeted in a drone attack off the country’s southern coast on Monday night, leaving fishermen missing, according to semi-official Mehr news agency. Mehr reported the attack occurred off the port city of Kargan and near Larak Island. PGSA’s deputy governor for political and security affairs in Hormozgan, Ahmad Nafisi, said search and rescue operations have started, and more details will come after an investigation. The report also references an earlier claim by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy that a super oil tanker, the “EL GAIA,” exploded and caught fire after striking naval mines while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz via a “forbidden” route south of the waterway. Separately, the PGSA warned insurers and classification societies against serving vessels on an updated list of “violating” ships.
