Watt perfectly explains why Bears' Jeffery Simmons was able to eviscerate Seahawks just days after trade
JJ Watt explained why Bears defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons was able to impact the Seahawks just days after a blockbuster trade, pointing to how quickly defensive linemen can learn assignments. In a post on X, Watt said the position is “one of the easiest” to learn, describing simplified alignment cues in the huddle and rapid adaptation to stunts, blitz patterns, and team-specific calls. Technique and execution, he noted, are harder, but Simmons, in his view, fits the transition. On the field, Chicago’s debut included Simmons setting the tone with a sack of Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold in the first quarter and leading the Bears with five tackles in the first half, including time lining up at defensive end. Coach Ben Johnson urged restraint after the early intensity.
