Why not?' - Germany sporting director Völler gives Füllkrug hope

Germany sporting director Rudi Völler has urged Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug to believe in a return to the national team. The 33-year-old, who was overlooked by Jürgen Klopp in early Nations League squads, extended his scoring run to four straight Bundesliga games with a goal in Friday’s 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund. Völler told Sport1’s Doppelpass on Sunday, “Why not?” and pointed to the striker’s heading ability, citing his impact even at the 2024 European Championship. Völler said Füllkrug’s loan move back from West Ham to the Bundesliga, plus a guaranteed starting role at Bremen, could help. Füllkrug’s last Germany goal was in September 2024 and his last appearance came in June 2025.
