Year-old reels in piranha at Pennsylvania lake: 'It was pretty crazy'

An 8-year-old Pennsylvania angler reeled in what officials say was likely a pet piranha that ended up in Ridley Park Lake. On Saturday, Seamus Coffey and his father, Michael, were fishing when Seamus hooked a fish he initially thought was bass, then a bluegill, before identifying it as a piranha after looking it up online. Officials from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission said the fish was likely introduced by someone who believed they were placing a pet responsibly into the lake. The pair said they first returned the fish to the water, then removed it after deciding it posed an ecosystem issue. They estimated it at about 9.5 inches long and roughly 2 pounds, and state officials believe the case was isolated.
