An Oregon-to-California EV trip got easier, but the fast-charging bill didn't
A road trip from Oregon to California in an electric Ford F-150 Lightning may be easier thanks to better routing, but charging costs aren’t necessarily lower, according to Transport Evolved. In the video, the channel documented a fast-charge stop at the Seven Feathers location in southern Oregon, where the Lightning arrived at about 10% charge and took on nearly 100 kilowatt-hours. The creators said the session cost roughly 2.5 to 3 times what it costs to fill the truck from empty at home, and highlighted rising public rates from Electrify America in Oregon—61 cents per kilowatt-hour versus 43 cents in 2022. Some California sites reached 69 cents. For a 745-mile trip, they estimated about $100 in charging using lower-cost options, versus $153 to $176 for gasoline in an F-150 EcoBoost, and $192 if the route relied only on Electrify America.
