'Best of 2027' vehicles revealed as car of the year voting begins

The North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards begin Tuesday, Sept. 15, with automotive journalists preparing the annual “Best of 2027” list. The 25-vehicle shortlist will face scrutiny throughout 2026 before the winners are announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The contenders were narrowed from 56 new cars, trucks and SUVs already on sale or expected before the end of 2026, spanning electric, internal combustion and hybrid powertrains. Five vehicles compete for North American Car of the Year, four for Truck of the Year, and 16 for Utility Vehicle of the Year, with minivans eligible but none making the list.
