BYD Isn't Just Exporting Cars. It's Becoming a Global Automaker.

BYD is shifting from being a Chinese EV exporter to building a genuinely global automaker, with local factories, research operations, and supply chains emerging across key markets. The company’s European push is a centerpiece: its first passenger-car plant in Hungary is moving toward production, and BYD is considering additional sites. An advisor recently said the brand will likely need three assembly plants and one battery factory in Europe to hit volume targets while complying with regulations. Beyond Europe, BYD is expanding in Southeast Asia and Latin America—Brazil is now its largest market outside China—while also preparing a locally built plug-in hybrid for the region’s flex-fuel infrastructure.
