Toyota is reportedly entering the extended-range EV (EREV) market first in China, aiming to produce 200,000 vehicles next year and double that to 400,000 in 2028, according to Nikkei Asia. The move comes amid ongoing charging-infrastructure concerns even in China, where gas-range extenders are positioned as a practical workaround. Separately, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed an investigation into nearly 130,000 Honda Ridgeline pickups for rearview camera failures, without further action, Reuters reports. In other updates, McLaren introduced a new logo inspired by its original wordmark, Tesla’s former self-driving engineer Minwoo Park has been making changes inside Hyundai’s autonomy teams, and Mercedes CEO Michael Scheibe warned the company may need to close two German plants if costs can’t be reduced.
