BYD names its ultra-luxury EV, and it could be a game changer next week
BYD will unveil its new ultra-luxury electric sedan as the Yangwang Altior, with a potential debut as early as next week ahead of a reported Nov 5 timeframe. BYD says the flagship could introduce two firsts for the company: Rolls-Royce-style coach doors and solid-state batteries. The Yangwang sub-brand sits at the top of BYD’s hierarchy and has previously shown quad-motor e4 technology delivering 1,300 hp along with DiSus-X “dancing” and three-wheel driving. BYD revealed the name Tuesday and noted that “DingYao” carries meanings of stability/endurance and radiant brilliance in China. Local reports suggest the sedan will be about 5,500 mm (216 inches) long and will be launched globally in the UAE rather than China, potentially in Dubai. A teaser at BYD’s Flash Charging station hints at megawatt flash charging support.
