Carson Hocevar’s crash in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona wasn’t triggered by the “new package,” he said—it was rooted in an old aerodynamic reality at superspeedways. With six laps left Saturday, Hocevar was in position to reel in Ryan Preece for second when he dropped from the high line to the bottom entering Turn 3. In the lane change, his Chevrolet’s nose caught a gust of air the underbody wasn’t sealed against, lifting briefly and causing the rear tires to lose traction. The car snapped loose, slammed the outside wall, and pulled Erik Jones and Ty Gibbs into the wreck, sending the race to overtime.
