Could Russian diesel lower Texas fuel prices? Farmers, truckers watching Trump deal
A deal to send 300,000 tons of Russian diesel into global markets could offer short-term relief for Texas farmers, truckers, and consumers dealing with high fuel costs, according to a KXAN report from Austin. President Donald Trump said he reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin to increase diesel supply, with 500,000 tons in November, 1 million tons “immediately thereafter,” and 3 million tons shortly after. Texas Farm Bureau communications director Gary Joiner said Texas farmers are paying 70% more for diesel than a year ago. The report links recent diesel price spikes to U.S. conflict involving Iran and concerns around supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. An analyst at the University of Texas said prices could drop by “tens of cents” for a few weeks. Some senators criticized the arrangement.
