Engineer's two most reliable car brands - not Audi, Ford or Honda

Engineer David Chao, who has more than 35 years in the automotive industry, has ranked car makers by reliability and says the top spot isn’t held by Audi, Ford or Honda. In his grading, Toyota and Honda sit in the “A” tier alongside Mitsubishi and Porsche, while Nissan, Hyundai, Kia and BMW are in “B.” Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, Ford and Tesla fall into “C,” with Stellantis last in “D.” Chao puts Subaru and Mazda in the highest “S” tier. He praises Toyota’s new product introduction process and Honda’s engineering, but warns Mazda’s smaller scale may limit long-term reliability translation.
