Exclusive: Dacia Hipster to launch in 2027 as sub-£10k city car

Dacia plans to launch its tiny “Hipster” microcar in 2027, positioning it as a rival to the upcoming Fiat Multilpina and targeting a price under £10,000. According to a report, production will take place in China at the same plant that built the outgoing first-generation Spring, with a 20bhp motor and a 15kWh battery. The UK price is expected to land around £9,500. While Dacia previously hinted production depended on profitability and demand, internal sources now indicate the project has moved forward. The plan is tied to shifting strategy after changes in Renault Group leadership, including a decision to base the next Spring on the reborn Renault Twingo built in Slovenia. The Hipster’s lower target pricing is expected to leverage China’s expertise in low-cost microcars, and the company is also working to safeguard the Shiyan plant’s future capacity.
