Ford and Geely strike deal for EV production at Spanish plant, ABC reports

Ford and Geely’s reported deal centers on shifting electric-vehicle production to Spain, using Ford’s Almussafes plant near Valencia as the manufacturing base. Reuters reports that, according to ABC, Ford will sell part of the Almussafes facility, enabling Geely—owner of brands including Volvo, Polestar and Lotus—to build EVs in the European Union. ABC said the announcement is expected during Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s and Ford Europe President Jim Baumbick’s visit to the plant on Thursday. The agreement is described as helping Geely avoid EU tariffs on EVs imported from China while gaining direct access to European demand. For Ford, the plan is expected to cut fixed costs through shared factory infrastructure and help safeguard jobs amid uncertainty from model phase-outs and reliance on the Kuga. ABC said Geely’s EX2 will be produced at Almussafes.
