Tesla earnings live: Investors await Q2 results as Elon Musk pivots to AI-powered cars and robots
Tesla earnings are in focus as investors await the company’s second-quarter results, amid debate over Elon Musk’s push toward AI-powered cars and robots. Musk has said Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver-assistance system will soon make all Teslas fully autonomous, a claim that underpins the EV maker’s roughly $1.4 trillion market valuation. However, a Reuters investigation interviewed nine former AI labelers and a former Tesla self-driving engineer who said the system continued to struggle with basic maneuvers in recent months. Reported failures included handling scenarios such as avoiding emergency vehicles and stopping for school buses loading or unloading students. Seven former labelers told Reuters they would not trust FSD to drive them. Musk and other executives cite company safety statistics that they say show FSD is up to 10 times safer than human drivers, but Reuters found issues in Tesla’s statistical methodology. U.S. senators asked the traffic safety regulator to review Tesla’s self-published crash data, and Tesla did not respond to detailed questions.
