Gas prices are about to take a big jump, analysts say

Analysts warn that disruptions tied to the U.S.-led war on Iran could push U.S. gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher, potentially well beyond the midterm election cycle. Damage to Saudi Arabia’s 745-mile East-West oil pipeline—Saudi’s main overland alternative to the Strait of Hormuz—adds to ongoing strikes on oil infrastructure and uncertainty over control of a key waterway. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the pipeline could be operational again in days, but oil-infrastructure consultant Andrew Lipow expects repairs to take “a month or two,” based on observed pumping-station damage. Analysts also say far less oil is moving through the Strait than the administration claims.
