GSP: Pickup truck driver 'failed to yield' before colliding with school bus - Now Georgia
A pickup truck driver “failed to yield” before colliding with a Habersham County school bus on GA 197 South on Sept. 3, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The crash happened near the GA 365 interchange around 4 p.m. GSP said 64-year-old Dawn Howington of Clarkesville was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the GA 365 exit ramp, stopping at the stop sign at GA 197. A school bus driven by 28-year-old Abigail Bailey of Demorest was traveling north on GA 197. Investigators said Howington attempted a left turn but didn’t yield. The Silverado’s right-front quarter panel struck the bus’s left side, and both vehicles stopped on the east shoulder facing north. A juvenile passenger complained of a minor injury, and traffic was backed up during the response. Superintendent Patrick Franklin previously said no students or staff were hurt.
