Hamilton questions costly Ferrari pitstop decision

Lewis Hamilton questioned Ferrari’s strategy after a late pitstop during the Hungarian Grand Prix left him missing a likely podium. The seven-time world champion ran second before the stop came during a virtual safety car shortly after McLaren’s Oscar Piastri retired with a gearbox problem. Hamilton finished fourth on track but was classified fifth after a five-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane. Speaking at the Hungaroring, the Briton said he did not think Ferrari should have stopped and that the decision came “literally” just before the pit entry, leaving him no time to discuss it. Max Verstappen finished second behind Lando Norris, with Kimi Antonelli third. Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur defended the call as unfair to ask Leclerc to extend his gap.
