How a career as an automotive technician is adapting to the times
As vehicles become more complex, automotive careers are shifting too—according to a feature on the Agnew Group’s training pathway in Northern Ireland. The company, which operates 14 dealerships across Belfast, Newtownabbey and Portadown, represents brands including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Porsche, Škoda, Volvo and Volkswagen. It supports around 70 apprentices and has a technical workforce of more than 200, investing in training, technology and career progression. The article highlights examples: James McClean, now Workshop Controller at Porsche Belfast, joined in summer 2019 and reached Gold Master Technician status by 2024. Neil Rooney, a Master Technician at Audi Belfast, became a High-Voltage Expert in 2018 and achieved Master Technician level in 2023.
