Kicking cans and downing pints

The text appears to be a standalone edition of POLITICO’s “Playbook,” presented by Sam Blewett, mixing political newsroom chatter with commentary on UK fiscal policy coverage. It references criticism of John Healey’s first budget, including a video moment where Healey downed a pint in front of cheering officials. The piece also notes that details such as £100 payments for 20 million households starting in January led to heavy public interest, including a crash of a council tax eligibility portal. It highlights reactions from multiple UK newspapers and quotes Healey’s portrayal of the budget as more than “dull” while suggesting markets received it smoothly due to its relatively low-profile approach.
