Killed when vehicle hits car, IDOT SUV stopped on I-57 shoulder

A fatal crash on Interstate 57 near Blue Island involved a chain collision that killed one person, according to authorities. The incident was reported at about 4:46 a.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes near 127th Street. Police said a passenger vehicle and an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) SUV were involved and pulled over onto the left shoulder. While the vehicles were stopped there, a third vehicle struck them. One person was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead from injuries. A second individual sustained unspecified injuries. As of Saturday morning, both lanes were closed for the crash investigation, with traffic routed via the right shoulder.
