Lexus ES vs Mercedes CLA, an electric luxury sedan comparison from Edmunds
Edmunds’ comparison between the Lexus ES and Mercedes-Benz CLA focuses on two redesigned luxury sedans for 2026, each offered in gas and fully electric versions. The ES is positioned as the comfort-oriented midsize sedan, while the CLA targets buyers seeking a more affordable entry into Mercedes. In space and comfort, Edmunds finds the ES wins: it’s longer and taller than the CLA and delivers more rear legroom, plus a larger trunk and a smoother ride over bumps. In range and charging, the CLA 250+ posts 374 miles (EPA) and 434 miles in Edmunds’ real-world testing; the dual-motor CLA 350 reaches 312 miles (EPA) and 385 miles. The ES 350e is up to 307 miles (EPA) and the ES 500e up to 276. Charging peaks at 150 kW for the ES, versus higher capacity for the CLA; Edmunds measured 13 minutes to add 100 miles for the ES and seven for the CLA.
