Lexus is taking a page from China for its next electric SUV launching in 2027
xCruzo Brief
Lexus plans to launch a new electric SUV in 2027, built in China for the first time in more than two decades. Toyota’s luxury brand confirmed the vehicle will be produced at its new Jinshan, Shanghai manufacturing plant, marking its first overseas Lexus factory built from scratch. Construction began with a groundbreaking in June 2025, and Toyota expected the facility to be completed in August, with the first units rolling off in fall 2027. The plant will use advanced manufacturing methods such as gigacasting to cut costs and speed output, targeting about 1,000 units per month in 2027 before ramping to “tens of thousands” in 2028.
