Manuel Ugarte: Man United midfielder's woes continue at World Cup
Manuel Ugarte’s struggles continued for Uruguay and Manchester United as he featured again in the World Cup after a difficult club season. Ugarte started Uruguay’s shock 2-2 draw with Cape Verde, having also played in the team’s earlier 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia. At Old Trafford, the midfielder has struggled to secure consistent playing time under Michael Carrick and is described as a player potentially available for sale this summer, with Manchester United seeking at least £25 million to avoid a PSR loss. Against Cape Verde, Ugarte picked up a yellow card within the first 20 minutes but contributed to Uruguay’s second goal via a cross that led to Agustin Cannobio’s finish. He recorded two key passes, with 85% of his passes finding their target, and accumulated 68 touches. Uruguay now must beat Spain on Saturday, 27 June, to reach the next round.
