Marquez wins thrilling Australian MotoGP sprint to retake championship lead
xCruzo Brief
Marc Marquez won the Australian MotoGP sprint from pole on Saturday to retake the championship lead, after a title battle with Jorge Martin that ended in Martin’s eighth-lap crash. The seven-time champion moved to 365 points, 10 ahead of Martin, who did not finish after his bike slid into the gravel at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Following wet qualifying, the sprint started dry with dark clouds overhead. Marquez held the front early, but Martin repeatedly stole and then overplayed moves on his Aprilia. Alex Marquez finished second for Gresini, with Fabio Di Giannantonio third. Martin was taken to the medical centre for evaluation.
