The limit' MotoGP champ wins bare-knuckle Phillip Island brawl to re-take series lead
Marc Marquez reclaimed the MotoGP world championship lead by winning the Australian GP sprint at Phillip Island after a chaotic duel with Jorge Martin, who crashed out at Turn 8 on lap eight. Starting from pole with the biggest qualifying margin of 1.494 seconds in seven years, Marquez took victory and entered Sunday’s final Grand Prix with a 10-point advantage. He secured his ninth sprint win of the season, finishing 0.323 seconds ahead of Alex Marquez, while Fabio Di Giannantonio was third, 0.590 seconds back, giving Ducati the podium. Marquez said it was a title battle decided with both riders “on the limit.” Martin moved from fourth to challenge, traded positions seven times, then crashed at the Hayshed right-hander. Marco Bezzecchi recovered to fourth, and Jack Miller finished eighth. The Australian GP is scheduled for 2pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
