Mitsubishi previews next Outlander SUV and new ASX
Mitsubishi has shown next-generation versions of its two best-selling SUVs to dealers in North America ahead of their expected arrival in Australia, including a new Outlander and a refreshed ASX. The previews were presented to dealers in the US as part of the Momentum 2030 strategy, alongside a look at the returning Pajero. According to Automotive News, the fifth-generation Outlander—targeting the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 segment—is scheduled for launch in the US in the second half of 2028, though Australian timing has not been confirmed. Replacing the current Outlander sold in Australia since 2022, it moves to a new Mitsubishi-developed platform, with the current CMF-CD architecture previously shared with Renault and Nissan. Design details include a new front end with a closed-off grille and eight stacked slim LED lights, while the rear keeps the existing “fighter jet” theme. An off-road-focused variant was also shown with higher ground clearance, unique cladding, an updated front bumper, and a retuned all-wheel-drive system building on the 2025 Outlander Trail Edition. Dealers were also briefed on an Outlander Sport for the US—previously the Australian ASX—reportedly a larger, ground-up redesign on a new platform.
