Netherlands MotoGP: Ai Ogura wins maiden race in Assen after Marco Bezzecchi crash
Ai Ogura won his first MotoGP race in the Netherlands at Assen after Marco Bezzecchi crashed hard and was taken to hospital. Bezzecchi, who entered the race leading the championship, went down on lap three at over 200 km/h and was transferred for further examinations after initial treatment at the circuit’s medical centre. His Aprilia team said the 27-year-old was conscious with no major physical or neurological damage, but was suffering from “intense pain.” Ogura passed teammate Raul Fernandez late to win by more than two seconds, Japan’s first MotoGP victory since Makoto Tamada in 2004. The result reversed Saturday’s sprint, which Fernandez won by 0.362 seconds. Jorge Martin finished third after starting from pole and leads the standings, with Bezzecchi seven points behind and Ogura up to fourth.
