Newark crash kills 2 women after tractor-trailer overturns onto car

Two women were killed Tuesday morning in Newark, New Jersey, after a tractor-trailer overturned onto a car on Interstate 78, according to state police. Troopers were called at 9:08 a.m. on I-78 East at milepost 56.8 in the local lanes. A Mack tractor hauling a utility trailer was traveling eastbound when it approached a Chevrolet sedan stopped in traffic in the left lane. Police said the Mack driver tried to swerve to avoid the stalled vehicle, but the truck overturned onto the car. The Chevrolet driver, 42-year-old Ayesha Wright of Newark, and passenger 25-year-old Kendra Rouse, died at the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries; lane closures and delays followed as the cause remains under investigation.
