Mechanic hit by car after falling from recovery truck, inquest hears

An inquest heard a 66-year-old motor mechanic, Malcolm Orme from Accrington, fell from the sloping ramp of a recovery truck on Padiham Road Burnley, after driving his damaged van onto the flatbed without being asked, and was struck by a passing Hyundai. The recovery driver, Benjamin Harrison, described lowering the truck after a dynamic risk assessment and believed Orme was in a safe position at the front of the vehicle. Witnesses said the man fell as a Hyundai passed, and paramedics later found no return of circulation. A post-mortem noted spinal and skull fractures, and the inquest is being held at County Hall, Preston.
