Nissan and Honda have agreed to develop shared computer parts and software for vehicles planned for the market in fiscal 2029, according to a statement Monday from both automakers in Tokyo. The partnership calls for standardized “core ECUs” (electronic control units) and software to be shared between Nissan, headquartered in Yokohama, and Honda, based in Tokyo. The companies started discussions in 2024 around electric vehicles and auto intelligence technology, but the new deal does not specify EVs or any model names. It centers on software-defined vehicles—systems whose functions can be updated and controlled via software rather than through hardware changes. The move targets lower costs, faster development, and scale efficiencies.
