Ogura takes Japan's first MotoGP win in 22 years as championship leader has 200km/h crash at Assen
Ai Ogura became Japan’s first MotoGP winner in 22 years with his maiden victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, completing an Aprilia podium lockout at Assen. The 25-year-old led the Trackhouse-Aprilia 1-2 with teammate Raul Fernandez second and pole-sitter Jorge Martin third. Ogura, who took maiden pole last weekend in the Czechia GP and finished second there, initially faced a setback when he was pushed back to sixth after an early clash with Fernandez. He then fell back from third on lap 16 of 26 when his rear ride-height device temporarily stuck, before storming past Martin for second on lap 18 and taking the lead from Fernandez on lap 20. He won by 2.004 seconds. The race also featured a championship shift as Martin took the lead after Bezzecchi crashed out of fourth on lap two. Bezzecchi was cleared of injury but taken to a nearby hospital for checks. Overall, seven riders failed to finish; Pedro Acosta retired on lap 13, and Francesco Bagnaia’s run ended on lap 15 with rear brake failure.
