Ogura wins maiden MotoGP race after Bezzecchi crash

Ai Ogura won his first MotoGP race at Assen in the Netherlands after Marco Bezzecchi was taken to hospital following a heavy crash. Entering the race as championship leader, the Italian hit trouble on lap three at more than 200 km/h, crashing and being transferred for further examinations after receiving initial treatment at the circuit’s medical centre. Ogura, 25, then converted his momentum into victory, passing Trackhouse teammate Raul Fernandez late to win by more than two seconds. The Spaniard Fernandez had won Saturday’s sprint by 0.362 seconds, making Sunday’s result a reversal. Jorge Martin finished third after starting from pole, while Marc Marquez battled early for fourth with Francesco Bagnaia and Pedro Acosta. Acosta retired on lap 13 due to issues in his right hand, Bagnaia retired two laps later, and Marquez ultimately finished sixth after a track-limits penalty. With Bezzecchi seven points behind Martin in second, Ogura moved up to fourth.
