Pedro Acosta will undergo wrist surgery on Tuesday after retiring from the MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix with carpal tunnel syndrome. The factory KTM rider had made early progress from eighth on the grid and spent much of the Assen race fighting for a top-five result with Ducati’s Marc Marquez. His race ended on lap 13 of 26 when he slowed into Turn 1 and pulled into the pits. Although a mechanical issue seemed possible at first, TV footage showed him in visible pain, violently shaking his right hand. After the race, Acosta said he has been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, which left his wrist numb and made it impossible to operate the right lever during racing. Surgery was originally planned for the summer break but was moved to before the German GP on 5 July. He had scored one point across the two races, after other Saturday issues limited him.
