Renault R4 and R5 electric cars due major updates in 2027
Renault R4 and R5 electric cars are set for major updates aimed at improving both performance and efficiency, with Autocar reporting a reveal in late 2026 or early 2027. The compact EVs, both built on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, will receive upgraded second-generation electric powertrains. The update is expected to raise output while reducing energy consumption by optimizing components such as the inverter and gearbox. In current configurations, the R5 Urban Range pairs a 121 hp motor with a 40 kWh battery, while the R5 Comfort Range uses a 148 hp motor and a 52 kWh battery. Reported ranges are about 310–405 km for the R5 and around 402 km for the R4 maximum version. Renault’s EV director Marianne Bataillon links the work to experience from future Scenic and Megane models. The technology is also starting to appear in the next Renault Twingo, though with reduced output of 80 hp for urban use.
