A man was critically injured after being ejected in a crash on eastbound I-96 in Brighton Township early Friday morning, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. The preliminary investigation says a 28-year-old man from Wixom was driving a 2020 Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed east of Grand River when the vehicle hydroplaned and lost control. The Jeep struck a woodchipper being towed by a 2015 Ford Super Duty Truck. That impact caused the Ford to jackknife and lose control, rotating so the passenger was ejected. The drivers were not injured, but the Ford passenger, 41, from Pontiac, was taken to the U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor in critical condition. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor; investigators kept the road closed for four hours.
