Spain coach Luis de la Fuente reacts to Marc Cucurella's tattoo promise after World Cup win
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente reacted to Marc Cucurella’s World Cup tattoo promise after La Roja beat Argentina 1-0 at the New York/New Jersey Stadium. De la Fuente said players must “make good on their promise” following their win, after Cucurella had told reporters before the final that he and teammates would get tattoos of the coach’s face somewhere on their bodies if Spain defeated Lionel Messi. De la Fuente, 65, clarified that he is not seeking tattoos for himself anymore, but insisted the squad was “serious” and would follow through. Cucurella also reiterated he remained committed, saying he needs time to choose the right spot and joked about getting ideas. The remarks came amid broader celebration and criticism, including reports of boos directed at U.S. President Donald Trump during the festivities and claims of poor sportsmanship by Argentina during a medal ceremony.
