Thames & Kosmos has launched a $39.95 model car kit designed to teach kids how a real V8 and manual transmission work. The build includes 233 pieces and a 40-page manual with assembly steps plus explanations of key mechanical engineering concepts. Unlike standard toy cars, the kit uses an electric motor—powered by two AAA batteries—to drive a rotating crankshaft and pistons in a miniature clear V8. A four-speed manual-style gearbox, working shifter, and a differential transfer rotational energy to left and right axle shafts. Double-wishbone suspension with coil springs and steerable cockpit mounting are also replicated. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
